I had a long discussion with Glenn here in the comments already about some of your comments. What I wrote to him would be more of less my reply to you. So with your permission I’ll reply only to the bit I didn’t reply to already before. I trust you’d go and read my comments from before.
I don’t think it’s a destructive critic. I do mention which products work well in my opinion and which decisions are good. Critic is something you can learn from and I think people can learn from my opinion and debate with me. So my expectation for discussion are around disagreement rather than doubting my basis for my claims.
Again, every big company release financial, user acquisition data, none of them release UX related data. So our only way is to guess about the UX decisions based on what we see in the apps. This is a case of internal politics between business, marketing, development and design. I suspect that in this case the designers lots the battle.
