The Google floating action button is a whole different story. But I would only say that in my eyes it’s a preferred action button. In the example of Gmail it’s used to write an email which is an action that we do less than reading incoming emails. Again back to my point about creation.

When the user is inside an email they experience a huge bottom bar button. This is the case of Reply/Reply all. In case you want to have a secondary action you choose something else.

But again — Google is a whole different story and we are dealing with Facebook for now :)
